Weekly Process

Week 1

123.PNG

We first created Discord group and through group calls, established the concepts for the characters and the general plot of the story.

We then created a Google Doc documenting our process for the script and character concepts.

We also shared some video links to reference the general look and feel of what our animation would look like and put together screenshots for documenting the precedence of the animation.

Week 2 & 3

We got together on Discord to complete the Team Contract as a group.

We then created a Google Doc for our storyboard narration. We wrote the storyboard narration together as a group.

Corissa took on the role as a storyboard artist.

Reina recorded the storyboard narration and put the video of the storyboard together in Premiere Pro.

Minh and Evan started the modeling of the characters on MAYA.

Week 4 & 5

On Week 4 and 5, we finalized the modeling of our characters, Flory and Jumbo, and started creating the environment of the animation.

The rigging and weight painting of the characters were also started at this stage after the modeling.

Week 6

We finished preparing the rough draft of the environment in which the animation will take place and started creating an animatic in sync with the storyboard.

The storyboard was timed with the approximate duration of each shot and Jumbo was filmed on Maya using the Arnold camera features.

The shot size in the storyboard was used as a reference when placing the cameras in Maya.

The animatic did not consist of Flory and Jumbo's final texture as it was still in process of editing.

Jumbo also did not have any rigging done at this point, so the animatic consisted of Jumbo sliding through the scene in T pose.

Week 7

After the Animatic, we started the texturing process of the characters and also finalized the rigging by adding controllers, blendshapes, and driven keys, so the characters would make smooth movements for the final animation.

Week 8 - 9

The final textures for Jumbo and Flory were applied to the model and texture animation such as blinking was also completed. After the texture was applied, we decided on the material types to adjust the level of light reflection.

Complicated model animations, such as Flory coming to bloom, were also worked on and the environment of the animation was finalized at this stage.

Week 10-12

Scene assembly and animation using reference files were completed at this stage.

Shots were distributed for the final rendering of frames which were to be put together in Premiere Pro.

We also used Sync Sketch to discuss the detailed motions of our characters before the render.

Week 13

The VFX and 2D assets were rendered as well and the final animation was put together in Premiere Pro! The background music and the sound effects were added.

Slight use of color correction and VFX such as masking of sky images were also applied in this post-production process.
